During reading time today in Pūkeko 16, one group read a book all about turtles and tortoises. Before reading we thought about what we thought the differences between them were.
We thought:
Turtles - laid eggs, lived at the beach, had a shell
Tortoises - laid eggs, lived in rocks at the river, had a shell
After we read we learnt they were very different. Here is a short video about some of those differences:
This is a tortoise - they have a higher shell. They have stumpy legs and they live on land.
Turtles vs Tortoises video
This is a turtle - they have flat shells, live in the water and have flippers to help swim in the water.

How do pūkeko communicate?
We made a mask and used drama to investigate this question in Pūkeko 15 during our inquiry rotation.
Dice games
Dice are a fantastic way of recognising patterns and add numbers. Today we played Bingo, by the end of maths we were champions at recognising patterns to 6.

Goop....
We had so much fun making goop! We had plenty to write about afterwards!
The goop was disgusting. It felt hard but when I squeezed it, the goop gets all runny and it runs all down your fingers.
The goop was slimy. It also looked like a volcano! When you squeeze it its very runny and when it dries it feels weird.
On Wednesday we made gooey goopy slime. It was amazing.

All About Me Bags in Pūkeko 16
What a wonderful time we have had listening to children share special things about themselves. It is very interesting to discover new and exciting things about classmates. Thanks to parents for all their support with this too. Have a look at who has shared so far below:

Swimming is finished for Pukeko this season
It has been amazing to see the progress made by the students during this swim season. We highly recommend consolidating this progress by going to public pools as a family.
